Reward Jumps for Info on Carjacking Murder

Police may have a break in the case of a couple killed over a car

Authorities are offering $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the murder of a South Florida couple gunned down at a Miami Gardens gas station.

Miami-Dade County Crimestoppers announced they were upping the ante Tuesday for tips to solve the murders of Julian Soler and Kennia Duran, who were killed during a failed carjacking July 25, police said.

And as the hefty reward was announced, local authorities may have been making a break in the case, sources said.

Hollywood Police arrested a teen who may have been connected to the shooting, a source close to the investigation told NBC Miami.

Hollywood Police would not confirm if the person was a suspect but did say they arrested someone the area of 64th Avenue and Taft Street who was wanted by Miami Gardens Police.

Duran's relatives said they were pleased to hear someone was already in custody and off the streets.

"It's sort of a relief the same people won't do this to another family," said George Esquirol, Duran's step father. "This has been a horrible tragedy."

Soler, 23, and 24-year-old Duran were attacked at the Mobile Mart in the 16000 block of Northwest 57th Avenue.

A surveillance video from the station shows Soler, filling up his car with gas and ready to leave, when a Pathfinder with three or four suspects inside ambushes the couple.

The suspects shot and kill Soler at the scene. Duran died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The pair may have been targeted for Soler's custom Mustang Cobra but the suspects left without taking a thing, police said.
