Man's Body Recovered From Intracoastal Waterway After Drowning, Second Victim Hospitalized

A morning swim in the Intracoastal Waterway in Deerfield Beach turned deadly for one man and sent the woman he was with to the hospital Friday morning.

Crews from Broward Sheriff’s Office and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the scene near the 200 block of Northeast 19th Avenue. The woman was rescued and transported to Broward Health North, while divers went into the water to recover the man's body.

According to police, the two left their bikes on the side of the waterway and attempted to swim across before they needed help.

Officials have not released the condition of the woman who was hospitalized.
