Police Investigate “Brutal Murder” in Oakland Park Home

BSO deputies investigating murder, looking for stolen car

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a murder inside an Oakland Park home Monday night.

Deputies were called to the home at 1386 Northeast 34th St. around midnight after the body of a man was found by friends.

A large crime scene unit was parked out front of the house all through the night and into the morning. Officials brought the body out at around 5 a.m., but won't confirm how the victim, later identified as 31-year-old Alfred McMurray, died.

"It was a brutal murder," BSO spokesperson Dani Moschella said. "It was tragic and violent."

Officials tell NBC Miami that McMurray lived in the home where he was found. A search on the address of the home found that the listed owner is Shannon Prewitt, but authorities would not say what the relationship between McMurray and Prewitt was.

Neighbors said the two men were lovers and Prewitt was often out of town on business. The couple had been living at the house for about six months, a neighbor said.

Police were called to the address after Prewitt told friends he was not able to reach McMurray.

Authorities say they are now searching for a car reported stolen from the home, a 2006 silver Toyota Tacoma. It has a Florida license plate, tag number 946TFL.

Authorities do not have any suspects.
