Charges Reduced for Alleged Pilot-Pounding Brothers

Men accused of attacking flight crew at Miami International Airport

Two brothers accused of beating up an American Airlines flight crew had the charges against them reduced by prosecutors.

Jonathan and Luis Baez had faced felony aggravated battery and assault charges for the July 27 incident at Miami International Airport.

On Friday, the charges were reduced to simple battery, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the Baez brothers became irate just before a flight bound for San Francisco took off.

Jonathan Baez was asleep on the plane and did not respond to commands by a flight attendant to put on his seat belt. He appeared to be drunk, a police report stated.

The crew asked Baez to get off the plane and that's when his big brother jumped into the fray. Luis Baez  threatened the pilot's life, and punched him in the face, the report stated.

Jonathan Baez is accused of punching a female flight attendant in the shoulder before joining his brother in the attack on the pilot.

An attorney for the Baez brothers did not immediately return a phone call Monday.
