Classes Cancelled After School Vandalized

Police investigate after Miami charter school broken into

A Miami charter school was closed Monday after it was broken into and vandalized, school officials said.

Classes were cancelled at the Aspira Youth Leadership Charter School at 13300 Memorial Highway after several classrooms were vandalized.

School officials said they found the glass on several doors shattered and desks and tables overturned.

Miami-Dade Police were investigating at the scene and employees worked to clean up the mess in time for classes Tuesday.

It's unknown how much damage was done.

The school, which has about 250 students in grades 6 through 9, is an independent charter school funded by private donations.
