Cop Hospitalized After Crash With School Bus

Coral Springs officer in serious condition after collision with school bus

A Coral Springs Police motorcycle officer was hospitalized in serious condition Monday after an accident involving a school bus, officials said.

The accident happened in the 3600 block of Coral Ridge Drive near Southwest 36th Street around 8:30 a.m. when Officer John Malvin somehow collided with a Broward County school bus, according to Coral Springs Police spokesman Lt. Joe McHugh.

McHugh said Malvin, who was on routine patrol, was traveling on Southwest 36th Street on his department-issued Harley Davidson while the bus was going west on Coral Ridge Drive and attempting to make a turn when the crash happened.

  Malvinwas airlifted to a nearby hospital in serious condition, McHugh said. He was later listed in fair condition with several fractures to his shoulder, as well as a broken finger, McHugh said.

The bus driver and three special needs children riding the bus were unharmed, McHugh said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
