Dennis Rodman, South Florida Girls Hold Tea Party at American Girl Store

The retired NBA star gave them life advice

Notorious NBA “Bad Boy” Dennis Rodman shared “tea time” with a group of South Florida girls at an American Girl store Wednesday.

“So I’m telling you guys, no matter if you live life or not live life to the fullest, don’t ever let yourself fail,” the retired NBA star advised them.

The Embrace Girls Foundation, a nonprofit afterschool program that embraces girl power, partnered with the new American Girl store at The Falls to host its signature Tea Party with the larger-than-life special guest.

“What we attempt to do is invite celebrities, dignitaries, community leaders and to have them come out and have a charming conversation about who they are and what they’ve done in their careers, with our girls,” said Velma Lawrence, the foundation’s executive director.

To honor the basketball legend – a stellar rebounder who is equally known for his wild antics, and Carmen Electra’s ex-husband – some of the young girls touched up their hair with a little color.

“We just wanted to show him that you can be colorful and so can we,” said Sydney Mortimer, 15.

The girls had the unique opportunity to ask Rodman a couple questions in a tea party setting. One girl asked him what message he was sending when he promoted his book “Bad as I Wanna Be” in a wedding dress.

“It’s just very cool, man, to see kids representing a new lifestyle and a new image for the young girls in the world,” Rodman said of the event.

Upcoming guests at tea parties at the American Girl store include Miss Florida USA and a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge.

The girls showcased their social and communication skills while speaking with Rodman, and took back some helpful tips.

“I learned not to take things for granted, take your time growing up, it’s OK to be a kid, don’t rush into a whole bunch of stuff, and just live life,” Mortimer said.
