Employee Finds Suspicious Person Inside Pompano Beach Daycare: BSO

A Pompano Beach daycare center was briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after an employee encountered an unknown person inside the building.

A janitor at the daycare, located within the First Baptist Church of Pompano Beach on Northeast First Street, spotted the person inside the building and alerted authorities, Broward Sheriff's Deputies said.

Children were locked into classrooms as police swept the building. The individual was not found, and on surveillance video, he is seen slipping out of the rear entryway of the church just after 7 a.m.

After a through sweep of the building, BSO deputies cleared the scene and the lockdown was lifted.

Church and daycare employees tell NBC 6 that Monday night is especially busy with services, and that the individual may have slipped in during that time. BSO believes the suspect may be a homeless person who was seeking shelter for the night.

Staff members tell NBC 6 that it does not appear that anything was stolen from the church or the daycare. No children were harmed.

No further information was immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
