An ex-waitress is suing a Fort Lauderdale Hooters after she says she was fired for reporting she was sexually harassed by a supervisor at the famed breastaurant.
Krista Kallao says the manager repeatedly sent her lewd text messages and photos, and was constantly asking her out on dates during a seven-month period in 2007.
The 28-year-old claims that when she rejected him, her hours were cut and he tried to have her tips reduced by making her customers wait longer for their food.
After Kallao reported the manager's behavior, he was fired. But she claims after the firing, she began receiving warnings about her job performance, and was unjustly fired three months later.
Kallao, now living in Michigan, filed the lawsuit earlier this month, seeking monetary damages.
A lawyer for Hooters said the company takes Kallao's claims seriously, and that they took swift action in firing the manager.
"She made a complaint and the manager didn't deny it," Richard Simeone, in-house counsel for the Hooters franchisee, told the Sun-Sentinel. "He was fired within 24 hours. She used our open-door policy and it worked. That was actually the last we heard of it."
