Grand Slam Propels Marlins Past Blue Jays

The Marlins have won six in a row against Toronto

Cody Ross went from scapegoat to hero within 24 hours after belting a grand slam home run against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night, shattering a tie and earning the Marlins a 7-3 victory.

Ross’s grand slam, which came in the eighth inning, allowed him to redeem himself from a fielding error Thursday night against the St. Louis Cardinals, which allowed two runs.

The Cardinals ended up winning that game 6-5.

"It's nice to be on this side of the victory," Ross said. "When you feel like you let your team down, it's not a very good feeling. Tonight, when you actually help your team get a victory, it's much more gratifying, obviously."

Left fielder Chris Coghlan had a career-high four hits and shortstop Hanley Ramirez went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

Marlins reliever Dan Meyers pitched one inning and earned his first victory.

The Marlins have beaten the Blue Jays six games in a row.
