A trip to Agogo, Ghana changed the lives of seven Broward and Miami-Dade people.
Under the leadership of Nathan Burrell, CEO of the Honey Project, the students went to Africa to make a difference in other young peoples lives.
The group left July 19 and stayed for 12 days, mentoring other young adults on a continent on the other side of the world. It's the group's second mission trip.
One of the students, University of Central Florida student Dominique Key, said her favorite part was working with the kids.
"Even though they don't have much, they're still so happy," the 20-year-old said.
While the students from South Florida were in Africa helping the locals, they also learned a little themselves.
"I learned to enjoy the little things in life," 19-year-old FIU student Ricardo Gonzalez said. "You can live without big things and still be happy."
Robert Lee, who attends UCF, said the mission's goal was to make sure the African students knew their potential and that anything is possible - you just need to use what you have.
For 22-year-old Lee, it's using his big heart.
"I like helping people," he said. "I like giving back."
The youngest member of the group, 14-year-old Rayna Lunn who goes to school at Pinecrest, said the experience gave a different view on herself and what she needs to do to be successful.
"It gives me a different perspective of life," Lunn said.
