South Florida is not looking like it will have much of a chance to dry out this week as a system in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring plenty of wet weather all the way into next weekend.

Late Sunday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center identified the area, well off-shore of the southwest Florida coast. As of Tuesday morning, it has a 20% chance of development over the next two days and a 30% chance of development over the next five days.

South Florida remains to the east of this feature and is a focal point for abundant moisture to stream in. Whether it develops or not, the impacts to South Florida will remain the same. It will bring added moisture to our area with showers and thunderstorms possible and could pack periods of heavy rainfall.

Each day we have a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rains are possible over the next several days, with accumulations of 2-4” reasonable across the area through Tuesday evening.

There are no active watches or advisories in effect at this time.
