Man Gets Four Years in Prison For Fatal Hit-and-Run

Daniel Ferguson was sentenced to four years in prison plus two years probation.

A man was sentenced to four years in prison and two years of probation Friday for a fatal-hit-and-run.

Daniel Ferguson fatally hit 67-year-old Ronald Newel with his car while the elderly man was mowing his lawn. Newel's body was projected 30 feet from the point of impact, according to Lauderhill police.

Ferguson fled the scene of the crime on foot but later returned to Broward General Hospital, according to authorities.

Ferguson told police that balloons in the car blocked his vision, causing him to hit several other cars before finally crashing into Newel.

The passenger in the car, Jakari Murray, died when he was taken off life support a few days after the incident.
