Horse Remains Found in North Miami-Dade

Officials said the horse was likely from a local racetrack

A horse was found slaughtered in the area of NW 179th Street and Okeechobee Road in Miami-Dade County Wednesday, officials said.

Investigators with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came across the horse remains while investigating a case of malnourished horses. They said the carcass had been there for about a week.

Officials told NBC 6 the horse was likely a racing thoroughbred from a local racetrack.

It is not known why the horse was slaughtered.
