    Man Killed After Boat Capsizes Off Fort Lauderdale

    A man, 76-year-old German Diaz, is killed after the fishing boat he was on capsized off Fort Lauderdale Beach. (Published Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015)

    A 76-year-old man was killed after a fishing boat capsized off Fort Lauderdale Beach Wednesday, authorities said.

    Five people, including a 5-year-old child, were on the 16-foot boat when it capsized about a mile and a half from shore, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

    Someone clinging to the vessel was able to call 911 and Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue units and the U.S. Coast Guard responded.

    German Diaz was taken to a local hospital where he later died, FWC officials said. No other injuries were reported.
