Man Accused of Stealing $38,000 in iPads from Job to Stay in Jail

A judge Thursday decided a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in electronics from his employer will stay in jail.

Geovanny Zavala, who was already arrested for grand theft back in 2011 and is still paying back that victim, faces new charges for allegedly stealing $38,000 worth of iPads and iPhones from the Ingram Micro warehouse in Doral where he was employed.

Zavala and another man, Pedro Lopez, are seen on surveillance video repackaging the electronic goods and taking them.

Zavala's attorney tried to argue that Zavala should be released.

"My client has had a tough time in his life the past couple of years and he's made some mistakes," said attorney Justin Beckham.

"My client would be best out of custody and trying to get a job, trying to reintegrate back into society," Beckham went on to say.

Still, a judge decided that Zavala should remain in jail on those third degree grand theft charges, with restitution to be paid back both in the old and new theft cases.

Zavala will be back in court in two weeks for arraignment on the current theft charges.
