Man Arrested in Attempted Murder of Hialeah Couple

One of the two suspects in the attempted murder of a couple in Hialeah has been caught, police said.

Ansel Smart, 23, faces two counts of premeditated attempted murder following his arrest Wednesday, Hialeah Police said.

Smart was being held on $10,000 bond early Thursday, records showed. It was unknown if he has an attorney.

Police said Smart and a second man, 30-year-old Johnny Audain, targeted the couple the evening of Nov. 8 at their home in the 700 block of E. 45th Street.

The couple was approached by the two armed suspects as they pulled in their driveway. The victims saw the suspects and ran into their home, as the suspects fired several shots at them.

No one was injured and the suspects fled the scene. Audain is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Smart was previously arrested on a murder charge in 2012 in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old mother of five, but the charge was later dropped.

Anyone with information about Audain is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
