Man Arrested in August Killing of Mother of 5: Miami Police

Ansel Smart, 20, is being held without bond

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old mother of five, Miami Police said.

A judge ordered Ansel Smart held on no bond on a charge of first-degree murder on Saturday. He was arrested the day before in the Aug. 13 shooting of Lakisha Lampiley, Miami Police spokesman Sgt. Freddie Cruz said.

Lampiley was killed after leaving Club Romance at NW 36th Street and NW 34th Avenue, according to police.

Near 14th Avenue, the suspect pulled alongside the gray Nissan Altima she was in and began shooting, police said.

He was last seen talking with Lampiley in Club Romance, according to police. Her sister has said she was in a hurry to leave the club that night.

Lampiley died from multiple gunshot wounds at North Shore Medical Center.

It was not immediately known whether Smart has an attorney, and there was not an upcoming court date listed for his case in online Miami-Dade court records on Monday.
