    Man in Coma After Boat Accident off Elliot Key

    NBC 6's Darryl Forges has more as family members pray for a miracle following this weekend's incident in Miami-Dade.

    A 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a boating accident in South Florida Sunday after he was unexpectedly cut by the vessel's propeller, officials said.

    Jonathan Cruz's mother told NBC 6 he was trying to help someone stuck near the bottom of the boat when someone turned the propeller on, slicing Cruz between his leg and back.

    The injury happened on a boat between Elliot Key and Sands Key, officials said. 

    Cruz was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where his aunt says he is in critical but stable condition after suffering injuries to his pelvis and leg.

    Family members told NBC 6 he is currently in a medically induced coma and, while there were no injuries to his spine, doctors told them it is too soon to know if he will ever walk again.
