Man Tried to Steal Store Clerk's Purse: Miami-Dade Police

Police are looking for a thief who tried to take a purse from a clerk at a northwest Miami-Dade store.

The incident happened the morning of June 22 at the Dollar Plus store at 6886 Northwest 169th Street, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to police, the suspect entered the store and wandered aimlessly before he reached across the counter and grabbed the clerk's purse. A struggle ensued and the 23-year-old woman was pushed to the floor, hitting the back of her head, police said.

The woman was able to grab her purse and held on to it despite the thief's attempts to take it, police said. The man eventually fled the store on foot, damaging the door during his escape.

"I came out of the register without thinking and I grabbed the purse from him," the woman, who didn't want to be identified, told NBC 6. "And then he started running and since the door is a 'pull door' he started pushing and pushing it until he broke it and he ran away."

Fire Rescue workers treated the clerk for her injuries at the scene.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his 20s, about 6-foot, 250 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
