Man on Parole Robs, Beats Pompano Beach Store Clerk: Police

A Pompano Beach store clerk is recovering after being savagely beaten and robbed by a man posing as a repairman, according to police.

According to a report from Pompano Beach Police, 55-year-old Melvin Wilder entered the Discount Beverage food store at 900 East Atlantic Blvd early Sunday morning through an unlocked rear door. He told the clerk he was there to fix a beverage cooler.

That's when police say that without warning, Wilder punched the clerk in the face, knocking her to the ground. He then began violently kicking and stomping the woman in her head and stomach with his large, heavy construction boots.

He also told the female victim that he would kill her if she got up from the ground, according to police.

Police say Wilder stole a bank envelope holding $400, a pack of cigarettes and 14 selfie sticks. He also stole $60 from the victim's purse.

According to police, Wilder was on parole at the time of the alleged crime with a termination date of September 1, 2017.

He's been arrested and charged with burglary, theft and parole violation.

It is not known if Wilder has hired an attorney.
