Miami-Dade Teacher Accused of Lewd Act With 14-Year-Old Student

Diego Guzman Carranza, 30, was arrested in Wilton Manors

A biology teacher at a Miami-Dade high school was arrested on a lewd and lascivious charge after he was found at an Airbnb rental with one of his 14-year-old students.

Diego Guzman Carranza, 30, a teacher at Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School, was arrested Thursday in Wilton Manors, police said.

According to an arrest report, the teen's older sister called police to report that the girl was with her teacher at the Airbnb. When officers arrived, Carranza answered the door shirtless and "began to question if he had done something wrong," the report said.

"F---, is she that young?" Carranza spontaneously said, according to the report.

Also in the room was the teen, who was wearing a long shirt but no pants, the report said. The girl told officers she had sex with Carranza before police arrived and said they had been involved in an ongoing sexual relationship, the report said.

When the room was searched, officers found two boxes of condoms, a used condom, a box of miscellaneous sex toys and Carranza's underwear, the report said.

Carranza was charged with committing a lewd and lascivious act on a victim between 12 and 16, and was booked into jail. His attorney told NBC 6 he did not want to comment on the case because they were still in the process of collecting discovery.

Wilton Manors Police said they contacted Miami-Dade School officials and the Miami-Dade Public Safety Department to inform them of the incident so each entity could conduct its own investigation.

Miami-Dade Schools officials said Carranza has only been a teacher with them for a year and a half.

"The allegations against this employee are despicable. The District goes to great lengths to ensure employees are guided by ethical and moral standards, especially where students are concerned. Any action running contrary to the values we promote and practice will be dealt with in the swiftest manner. The process to terminate his employment is already underway," they said in a statement.

A spokesman for Airbnb said in a statement "the reported behavior is abhorrent and has no place on Airbnb."

"We have permanently banned this individual from our platform and have reached out to local law enforcement to offer our support," said spokesman Ben Breit.
