Miami Gardens Police Chief Resigns

The Chief of the Miami Gardens Police Department has resigned, city officials said Thursday.

Chief Antonio G. Brooklen has resigned as his mother deals with a serious medical issue, city Manager Cameron Benson said in a letter Thursday.

Brooklen has been leading the department for more than a year and half.

He was appointed Interim Chief in February 2015 following the firing of former Chief Stephen Johnson, who was arrested for soliciting a prostitute.

Chief Brooklen is a 20-year police veteran.

He joined Miami Gardens Police in August 2007 and has been credited with building the department.
