Shipping Companies Prepare For Late Holiday Rush of Packages

It's boxes galore at DHL – and it helps employees know it's Christmas time.

“It's been an extremely trying time, but we're ready to go and ready to make that final push,” said area operations manager Ken Heidinger.

That final push means delivering over 1.2 million pounds of packages to doorsteps across South Florida. All the hard work and planning is not as simple as overnight shipping – it’s a long process that takes months to plan.

“Coming into October it's all about staffing,” Heidinger said. “(It’s) all about making sure that the needs of the customer are met.”

Employees work around the clock, organizing packages from over 250 countries and stay out as late as 10 PM just to make sure that special gift is under your tree this holiday season.

“Couriers will probably deliver until 5 or 6 PM Christmas Eve,” said Heidinger. “We will give them a couple days off to relax be with family and the 27th it starts all over again while probably mid-January we are already preparing for next year.”
