South Florida Woman Survives, But is Stuck in Nepal After Earthquake

A South Florida woman is among the many people trying to get home after getting stuck in Nepal after the devastating earthquake.

Haleigh Fecteau, 23, of Pompano Beach, was heading to the Mount Everest base camp when the quake hit Saturday, killing thousands.

Fortunately, she was not in the path of the ensuing avalanche.

Fecteau was able to make her way back to the town of Lukla, where she is trying to catch a flight to Katmandu, so she can then catch a flight home to South Florida.

Unfortunately, there have been few flights in and out of Lukla due to bad weather.

Even though Fecteau wasn't hurt, her father says she saw lots of destruction.

"Obviously she got shaken up, she saw some buildings fall, she saw rocks fly, she saw some landslides, she was scared," said Paul Fecteau.

Fecteau's flight home is scheduled for Sunday. Her father says the airline has promised to get her home, even if she misses the flight.
