State Department Travel Advisory Continues For Europe After German Truck Attack

In the wake of Monday’s incident in Germany – where at least a dozen people were killed when a truck was driven into a crowd, an act being called “likely terrorism” by that country’s leaders – Americans are again being advised to stay alert if they plan on traveling to Europe.

The State Department issued a travel alert for the region before the Thanksgiving holiday that is in effect until February 20, 2017.  Citizens are advised to exercise caution if they plan on being at any events, outdoor markets or festivals while traveling in the area.

Officials say you should check the website of the local U.S. embassy or consulate in the city you are traveling to for any recent security messages or warnings – as well as having an emergency plan in place in case there is an attack.

The news comes as many airports are planning for the rise in travelers over the next two weeks. Officials in Miami-Dade County expect as many as 2.3 million people to go through Miami International Airport from December 21st to January 6th.
