Two Arrested in Islamorada Burglary: Deputies

Deputies arrested a man and woman from Jupiter who burglarized an Islamorada home and stole jewelry from the homeowner.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the victim returned to his Preston Street home Thursday afternoon to find his doors locked. The homeowner says he never locks his doors.

The homeowner then went to the rear of his house and saw a man inside. He yelled at the man, and the man took off running from the house, deputies say. The homeowner later followed the man on a bicycle after seeing that same man on a skateboard headed to a nearby convenience store. A store employee saw the man meet up with a woman, and the pair then took off in a car, according to deputies.

Deputies were notified, and later spotted that car northbound on the highway but could not catch them because of traffic. After some time, they again spotted the car parked in Harry David Circle. The couple had reclined the seats in the car in an attempt to hide.

The suspects were identified as Keith Knespler, 28, and Stacey Legate, 26, both of Jupiter. They were identified by the homeowner and a witness.

The couple stole jewelry, including four Rolex watches, all of which were returned to the homeowner.

Knespler and Legate were booked into jail and charged with grand theft. Knespler was also charged with burglary, while Legate was charged with being a principle to the crime of burglary.

It is not known if either Knespler or Legate have hired an attorney.
