After years of waiting, those wanting to use Uber in Key West will finally get their chance starting Saturday.
The ride sharing service will make its debut on the southernmost city in Florida thanks to a statewide law that goes into effect July 1st regulating such services in the state – directly overriding any laws at the city level.
Key West had previously passed an ordinance in 2015 that banned Uber drivers from operating without a specific license, punishable by a fine and jail time. Other areas of the Florida Keys allowed Uber to operate.
