Lil Wayne Sentenced to a Year in Jail

It took three tries, but Dwayne Carter is headed to the Big House

The third time was the unfortunately charm for Miami's favorite rapper on Monday.

Lil Wayne has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty in a New York City gun case.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken away in handcuffs Monday to start serving his term immediately after his sentencing.

He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and admitted having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007. Weezy has been prepping for this day for a while but twice had sentencing postponed for fairly odd reasons.

A judge initially granted Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, extra freedom to get surgery on all the bling in his mouth.

His next chance to get sentenced, a fire broke out in the Lower Manhattan courthouse.

He'll serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behavior, which is to say he will be getting out in a year if you believe any of his rap lyrics.

In the meantime, Lil Wayne will probably be writing rhymes, shooting rap videos and doing a little recruiting for Cash Money while he is locked up.
