The Miami Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run in which a white General Motors Hummer slammed into a pedestrian who was on a crosswalk.
The pedestrian is in an extremely critical condition in the North Shore Medical Center, police said. The incident occurred at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday on the NE 82nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard intersection.
"The driver of the Hummer struck the pedestrian and sped off, leaving the injured man on the side of the road," police said in a statement.
At least 17 cars drove by the victim before a man who had been in the area stopped to help.
