A federal agent chased and exchanged gunfire with some burglars who tried to break into cars outside her Cooper City home Thursday morning, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff's Office officials said the woman interrupted car burglars she found outside her home in the 5200 block of Southwest 89th Way. A chase ensued, one of the suspects shot at the woman, and she returned fire, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials confirmed that the woman is one of their agents, but gave no other information.
Joseph Peters, 17, of Miami Gardens, was taken into custody and is facing charges of armed burglary and aggravated assault with a gun, officials said. He was booked at the juvenile assessment center.
No injuries were reported. Nearby Pioneer Middle School was placed on lockdown while authorities were searching for suspects.
The incident was still being investigated.
