Worker Falls Off Dolphin Expressway After Truck Tips Over

Man in critical condition after falling to street below, officials say

A worker fell off the Dolphin Expressway after the truck he was working on tipped over Wednesday.

Miami Fire Rescue officials said the man was on the truck on the expressway at Northwest 37th Avenue changing a light when the truck tipped over and sent him onto the sidewalk below.

The worker was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition. The Florida Highway Patrol identified him as 37-year-old Eric Ballesteros.

Officials said he fell at least 20 feet to the ground underneath the expressway. It's unknown if he was wearing a harness or other type of safety gear.

"This could have been a lot worse, seeing that where he fell was about maybe three feet away from 37th Avenue," Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said. "If he had fallen into the street he could have definitely been hit by a car."

The truck was left hanging over part of the expressway. The exit to LeJeune Road from the northbound lanes of the expressway were closed while the truck was being put upright.

No other information was immediately known.
