Animal Rights Group Releases New Video Showing Alleged Abuse at Another Florida Dairy Farm

What to Know

  • In the latest video, the group shot video showing animals being hoarded together in small areas along with calves being abused after birth.
  • One scene shows the farm’s owner, Theodore Berman, helping to load calves into a trailer where they were stuffed without room to move.

A South Florida animal rights group released their latest undercover video Wednesday, this one showing alleged abuses at another dairy farm just weeks after their operations showed abuses at two other facilities.

ARM published video they say was taken at the Davie Dairy Farm located in Okeechobee, the same city where the group shot undercover video at both Larson Dairy Farm and Burnham Dairy Farm. In the latest video, the group shot video showing animals being hoarded together in small areas along with calves being abused shortly after birth.

The video also shows animals being left for dead, with carcasses lining areas around the farm. One scene shows the farm’s owner, Theodore Berman, helping to load calves into a trailer where they were stuffed inside without room to move.

In a press release, ARM claims their investigators detected temperatures near 115 degrees during the summer months before Hurricane Irma struck in early September. Davie Dairy Farms provides milk to Southeast Milk, a company of over 300 farms that provide milk to supermarkets such as Publix and Winn Dixie.

After investigations exposed abuses at other farms in Okeechobee, Publix Supermarkets announced they would no longer carry milk produced from Larson Dairy Farms.

Southeast Milk Inc. released a statement saying the farms involved worked to make changes and fire employees seen committing crimes on the videos.

"Though we did not learn of these allegations until recently, we have acted swiftly and decisively since that time, working with our member farms to take all corrective actions suggested by third-party auditors and have fully cooperated with national and local law enforcement," the statement read in part.

NBC 6 reached out to Davie Dairy Farm, who would not comment and directed inquires to Dairy Farmers Inc., who have not responded.
