Coast Guard Petty Officer Facing Court Martial for Assaulting Tourist Couple in Key West

A Coast Guard petty officer charged with assaulting tourists in Key West is scheduled to face a Special Court-Martial.

The Coast Guard is charging 40-year-old Petty Officer Michael G. Gold with assault and drunkenness after Gold allegedly assaulted a vacationing couple back in November. According to the Coast Guard, Gold groped the female victim, then physically assaulted the victim's husband when he was confronted.

Gold is being charged with abusive sexual contact, assault consummated by a battery, and drunk and disorderly conduct. All are violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, a set of criminal laws that covers most civilian crimes in addition to military-specific offenses.

Gold's court martial is set for Monday, October 6th at the Key West Federal Courthouse.
