A Coral Springs police officer caught on camera kneeing a handcuffed man in the head has been sentenced to a year of probation, prosecutors said Monday.
A judge also ordered Officer Sandy Gomez to complete a 13-week anger management course and pay $645 in court costs for the Dec. 4, 2018 incident, Broward State Attorney Mike Satz said.
Gomez, 29, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge in the case. There was no plea agreement with prosecutors, Satz said.
The incident involved the arrest of 28-year-old Gabriel Narcisse-Beckford on charges including petit theft and battery on an officer. Video shot by a witness showed Narcisse-Beckford sitting on a curb in handcuffs when an officer walks over and appears to kick him twice. Another witness angle, taken from further away, appeared to show the same scenario.
All the charges against Narcisse-Beckford were later dropped.
