Estranged Son of Famed South Florida Rapper Luther Campbell Arrested on Auto Theft, Drug Charges

The estranged son of a famed South Florida rapper is behind bars and facing charges after he was allegedly driving a stolen car while carrying drugs.

Luther Rodrick Campbell, the 25-year-old son of Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell from the legendary rap group 2 Live Crew, was arrested Saturday night in Miami Beach and faces charges that include grand theft auto, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.

According to police, officers were alerted after a tag reader on the MacArthur Causeway hit on the tag as being a stolen vehicle. The car was stopped at the 1200 block of Washington Avenue where Campbell and a woman were inside.

The woman, who was not arrested, said she met Campbell at a Downtown Miami club and he was giving her a ride home. A search of Campbell turned up a bag with a white substance in his pocket that is suspected to be cocaine.

Campbell’s father posted a Twitter message in which he said that he has not seen or spoken to his son in 10 years.

The younger Campbell was arrested and sentenced to probation for grand theft auto in 2014, according to the paper, and was scheduled to start a five year probation next May after pleading guilty to burglary with assault and battery as well as witness tampering from a 2017 arrest.
