Family Pleads for Public's Help in Search For Father's Shooter

What to Know

  • A drive-by shooting on July 23 in Miami Gardens left 27-year-old Darin Williams dead and his 22-month-old son injured.
  • Williams' family pleaded the public in a news conference Thursday for any more information that could lead to an arrest.

Darin Williams Jr. was hit by the bullet that ended his life with his son in arms.

The child, Darin Williams III, was shot, too. The 1-year-old is expected to survive, but without the man he looked up to since the day he was born.

"Darin was such a proud father, and Darin the third worshipped him," said Latonia Brown, Darin Williams' cousin. "This is something we can't replace"

Not only did they share a name, but also a birthday.

"The day he was born was the best day of his life," Brown said.

Police believe the 27-year-old father and his son were the victims of a drive-by shooting on July 23 in the 2300 block of NW 187th street in Miami Gardens.

Now more than a week later, police still do not know who pulled the trigger.

Detectives were standing behind the family at police headquarters Thursday at a news conference as they begged the community for help

"We are pleading with you as a family to help us solve this," Brown said.

A $13,000 reward is in place for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
