Family Says Man Found at Bottom of Hollywood Canal Is Missing Father

Police have not officially identified the man or a cause of death.

After more than four long months of wondering and waiting, a family says it has the answer to a father's disappearance.

When police found a body in a canal north of Hollywood Boulevard last Thursday, Sarah Von Behren rushed to the scene, armed with a photo of her father, 52-year-old Kevin Von Behren, who had been missing since January.

"I really honestly don't know what happened to him, but in my heart I just feel like I already knew it was him," Sarah Von Behren said.

The Broward Medical Examiner's told NBC 6 it received a body from the police department last Thursday and that it was identified as Von Behren. Hollywood Police confirmed the identification Thursday.

While it is still unclear how the man's body ended up in the canal, wife Bonnie Tannenbaum told NBC 6 she remembered her last phone call with her husband on the day he disappeared and it sounded like he was in trouble.

"He was in fear, I could hear it," Tannenbaum said.

She described a frantic man who was running for his life.

"Then at the end of the call I can hear, 'No, no, don't,' and the call went dead and I just couldn't get through again," Tannenbaum said.

The family said Kevin Von Behren had recently relapsed from a drug addiction after seven years clean, and that his death could be a result of foul play.

"I really feel like I lost a big part of my life," said Tannenbaum, who was with Kevin Von Behren for 27 years. "I feel like nothing will ever be the same. My life will never be the same."

Police have not yet said whether they suspect foul play and have not released much information in the case as they await autopsy results.
