A central Florida juvenile detention officer has been fired after officials say she did not properly supervise four inmates who escaped earlier this month.
Four juveniles escaped from the Juvenile Detention Center in Orlando in May. According to a report from the Department of Juvenile Justice, the four escaped from a broken window with the bars pulled out, then climbed the roof and then scaled and climbed over two fences.
The Orlando Sentinel reports three were found within 15 minutes and the fourth turned himself in the next day. The report alleges Yessica Gomez didn't check on inmates in their rooms every 10 minutes as required.
The report also alleges Gomez also put her hand around the throat of an inmate after a different incident earlier in the night.
She said the facility was understaffed that night and that a trainee performed the room checks.
