Florida Lobbyist Ron Book Arrested on DUI Charges in Broward

Prominent Florida lobbyist Ron Book was arrested Sunday on DUI charges in Broward County, records showed.

Book, 66, was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol on charges including DUI, DUI with damage to property and refusing to submit to a DUI test, Broward jail records showed.

The details of the charges were unknown. Book had been held on $1,500 bond Monday, and attorney information wasn't available.

As he left jail after posting bond Monday afternoon, Book spoke briefly with reporters, insisting he wasn't drunk.

"I had a car accident, period. People will see the video," Book said. "I have cancer, I'm taking a number of medications."

Book is the father of state Sen. Lauren Book and the chairman of her Lauren's Kids Foundation, which focuses on sexual abuse prevention. Lauren Book told the Sun-Sentinel that a statement would be released.

Ron Book operates his lobbying practice in Aventura and Tallahassee, and is also the chairman of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust.
