A sewer line has ruptured in Fort Lauderdale, prompting flooding and a cry of foul odors `like vomit' in one neighborhood.
Fort Lauderdale spokesman Matt Little tells local news outlets city crews began work Tuesday afternoon to fix the 20-inch sewer main break near the city's Regal Trace Apartments. The water reached up to a foot and covered five square blocks. He says the problem was exacerbated by heavy rains.
David Littlefield who lives in the area said the neighborhood ``smelled like vomit.''
City officials advised motorists to find alternate routes around the area and asked pedestrians to avoid standing water near site. The city also issued a precautionary advisory to avoid water-related recreational activities along the New River.
Little says city employees were working on draining the sewage.
