Garbage Truck Explodes in Miami-Dade Neighborhood

Police and fire rescue workers responded to an apparent explosion involving a garbage truck in southwest Miami-Dade Friday morning.

The incident happened in front of a home in the 10600 block of Southwest 129th Court.

Footage showed the damaged truck with garbage surrounding it on the ground and street. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

A witness to the explosion said it happened as the truck was compressing the garbage inside, and he rushed to help the driver.

"He was dazed, stunned, grabbing his leg," the witness explained.

The blast blew out the windows in one house and scattered garbage everywhere.

"At this time, we do not know what caused the explosion but ATF, our bomb squad, the Fire Marshall are conducting the investigation together," said Jennifer Capote with Miami-Dade Police. "It seems like it was something that was inside the garbage truck."

When asked whether anything suspicious, such as wires or something that looked like a bomb, was found in the debris, Capote responded, "We have to look through everything and see what caused this."

The investigation is ongoing.
