Habitat for Humanity Builds Home for Single Mother of Three

Michelle Sampson got the opportunity to help build her new home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

"Coming from the projects to owning my own home, I'm speechless," Sampson said. "Such gratitude."

The new home is possible through Habitat for Humanity along with their partners, Wells Fargo Bank and Swire Properties' Brickell City Centre. They presented Michelle with a check for $30,000 toward her new home in Liberty City.

"I couldn't ask for more," Sampson said. "I prayed on it when I first applied and I was in tears of joy."

"That's what makes it all worthwhile," said Chris Gandolfo with Swire Properties. "Working with the homeowner hand in hand through the whole process and then being part of the dedication at the end, it's the most uplifting thing that you can imagine."

Mario Arteconna with Habitat for Humanity says they provide low-income families with the opportunity to be homeowners.

"We've built over 300 homes in Liberty City, which is making a huge impact in that community," Arteconna said.

Sampson's three-bedroom home is expected to be ready by the end of December, giving Michelle and her three kids a new start in the new year.

Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 25 years of this program and will build house number 1,000 in Miami-Dade county early next year.
