The Hialeah Police Department is investigating a crash involving one of its officers.
The crash happened during rush hour Thursday evening at the intersection of East 53rd Street and Le Jeune Road.
The Hialeah officer was driving an unmarked silver Chevy Malibu southbound on Le Jeune Road when he collided with a red Nissan Altima that was traveling northbound on Le Jeune.
The officer was transported to Palmetto Hospital with a leg injury and is expected to be okay.
The driver of the Nissan was not injured, but the passenger in the car was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Neighbors identified that passenger as a man named "Omar" who was being dropped off at his house just across the street from where the crash happened.
Delfina Espinosa said she is sad... that he is a good man and that she will be praying for his recovery.

Police said the officer was headed south on Le Jeune to a robbery call with his lights and sirens flashing. The two cars collided when the Nissan tried to turn onto 53rd street.
The crash remains under investigation.
