Hurricanes Suffer Third Straight Defeat

The Hurricanes fell at Virginia Tech on Thursday to extend their skid to three games

The Miami Hurricanes had their losing streak extended to three games with a 37-16 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday.

The Hurricanes began the year with a 4-0 start, but are a disappointing 0-3 since then. Miami suffered a tough loss to the Florida State Seminoles and has not been able to recover. After being nationally ranked earlier in the year, UM currently finds itself unranked.

Prior to the game, a member of the Virginia Tech community displayed an inflammatory sign on Twitter. The sign generated controversy and led to an investigation from VA Tech. In the sign, a fan of the Hokies referenced the late Jose Fernandez in a tasteless manner.

The game started slow offensively with each team trading field goals in the first quarter. Entering the second quarter of play, it was a 3-3 game and anyone's contest. In that second quarter however, the Hokies began to build their lead with a 13-6 advantage. VA Tech would extend the lead further in the third quarter on the way to the victory.

Brad Kaaya ended up 23-38 on his pass attempts for 323 yards. Kaaya found the end zone twice and was also picked off one time.

Miami's two touchdown passes were brought in by Christopher Herndon IV and Braxton Berrios. The TD for Herndon was his second of the year, while Berrios now has one this season.

Miami will stay on the road for its next game and visit Notre Dame on October 29th.
