Local Choir to Bring Yuletide to the Obamas

Miami choir will be the first to perform at the national Christmas tree

The choir at New World School of the Arts is bringing the holidays - Miami style - to the White House.

And no, they aren't White House crashing.

The group of high school students is headed to D.C. to perform around the national Christmas tree this Sunday and maybe they'll get to shake hands with President Barack Obama.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us,'' senior Christian Diaz told the Miami Herald. "It's something we're never going to forget.''

The choir is among 67 other singing groups from across the nation that have been invited to sing for dignitaries and the public in the nation's capital. The Miami Herald is reporting it's the first time a school from Miami has been invited to participate in the National Christmas Tree program.

All of the singing groups will get to witness the lighting of the enormous Christmas tree, which has become like a national holiday.

Along with some holiday favorites like White Christmas, the New World choir is adding a little West Indian flavor to their selections with a carol called The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.
