Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of Estranged Wife in West Kendall

A Miami man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his estranged wife in West Kendall last Thursday.

Manuel Macias Rodriguez, 56, remains at Kendall Regional Hospital and is in the custody of Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Police say Rodriguez went to the apartment of his estranged wife, 47-year-old Alina Gregoria Lomonte Carrera, and waited for her to arrive home. The couple's two sons, one of whom is just 16-years-old, were upstairs in the apartment.

Police said Rodriguez and Carrera got into an argument, and that he shot her multiple times before shooting himself. Carrera's body was left in the parking lot. Rodriguez was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

It is not known whether Rodriguez has hired an attorney.
