Man Pleads Not Guilty in Missing Jacksonville Toddler Case

A man arrested in the disappearance of a 21-month-old Jacksonville boy pleaded not guilty to child neglect and other charges.

William Ruben Ebron Jr. entered his pleas Monday as officials continued searching for Lonzie Barton. The son of Ebron's girlfriend went missing July 24 while in Ebron's care.

Ebron told police that he put Barton in his car and went back inside the house. When he returned, he said his car was being driven away with the boy inside.

The Florida Times-Union reports that police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Police released surveillance video showing Ebron's car being driven away, and then a man they identified as Ebron running back toward the home.

Ebron was also accused of rape by an ex-girlfriend before Barton's disappearance.
