Man Robbed Fort Lauderdale Westin Hotel at Gunpoint: Police

Fort Lauderdale Police are searching for a suspect who robbed the Westin Hotel at gunpoint on New Year's Eve.

The robbery happened around 6:20 a.m. at the hotel at 321 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, police said.

According to police, the suspect requested change from the front desk clerk and hour before the robbery. He later returned, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash.

The clerk handed over the cash and the suspect left the hotel, pointing the gun at a second employee telling them to walk away, police said.

Police described the suspect as a black male with a large build, about 6-foot-3 with a full beard. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
