Margate Police Investigating Shooting in Gated Community

Margate Police were investigating a shooting in the gated Coral Bay community Monday.

It happened in the 6300 block of Buena Vista Drive. Detectives are now working to determine the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

"Definitely a little bit tantalizing because it's a quiet neighborhood or at least it used to be," said Jonathan Reagle, neighbor.

Police said one adult man was shot around 5:30 p.m.

"The gentlemen had known one another. His vehicle is still over there. The gentleman who was shot, was shot in the chest and the leg," Reagle explained.

According to officials, the victim was transported to Broward Health North Hospital in critical condition.

As for the shooter: "There are no active threats to this community or in the general area right now," said Sgt. Alan Banatte with Margate Police.

Neighbors said their community has recently seen an increase in crime and worry for their safety.

"It's kind of disturbing. As a resident, we've been here like 15 years and it's usually quiet," Reagle said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
